Single plot Pinot Noir van Kelley Fox (Oregon, VS).
‘Only six barrels of this wine comprise this bottling. The vines were planted on their own roots back in 1983. It’s such an honour to be able to make wine from these old, organically farmed vines at this historic vineyard owned by Ken and Karen Wright of Ken Wright Cellars.
The 2019 is a medium-dark, youthful, rich blue-red. It’s brilliantly transparent as much depth as it has visually. The nose has spices and blue/red berry fruits along with some exotic components (very subtle vanilla pod) and minerals. In the mouth there is a powerful presence- a stillness- a restraint and a waiting-that is not at all heavy. The Carter is beautiful in a way that has me falling in love with Pinot time and time again if it’s from a place like this. This wine feels alive, ineffably beautiful, not tame, and noble.’ Kelley Fox
